What age should I take my kids for a first visit at a Meridian Dental Office? This question comes up quite often from my patients who have children. The pediatric associations recommend one year as a target for a child’s first dental exam. Several other factors may also play into the decision of when to first take your toddler to the dentist like emotional maturity and stranger anxiety.

Your first Meridian Dental office visit should happen before any problems are present. The best time to introduce a child to the dentist is before any invasive treatment is required. Preventative care can happen at the pace that your child’s emotional needs demand. Some one and two year olds hop into the chair on their fist visit, while many three year olds have had three “fun visits” at the dental offices before they will willingly accept an exam. Going to the Meridian Dental office child visit at the first sign of a problem results in priority given to fix a problem before it worsens -at the expense of the child’s emotional comfort. Early exams let positive associations, not emergency treatment, take precedent.

Insurance companies normally pay 100% of exams and preventative visits. Take your child now to your Meridian Dental office. We call these “Fun Visits” at our office, and they are based on what the child will comfortably accept. These fun appointments involve a ride in the dental chair, a balloon animals and introduction to the treasure chest. These appointments result in a positive association with the Dr Cantwell before any treatment is rendered. Even the most timid child can’t help but relax after several fun visits. Call today to schedule your child’s initial exam with your Meridian Dental office of choose: Atlantis Dental Care.

Large decay, fractured root, infection; all bad news. Any one of these may result in the loss of a tooth. Now what? Luckily there are several options for replacement of your tooth.

Your boise dentist may recommend a dental implant as the best option for several reasons:

1. A Dental Implant is the only option that will preserve the jaw bone health after extraction.

2. A Dental Implant is a “stand alone” tooth replacement, keeping a one-tooth problem son-tooth problem.

3. A Dental Implant can’t get a cavity, and is a life-long solution.

4. You can brush it, floss it, and is not removable. As close as you can get to having your tooth back! Ask your Boise Dentist about Dental Implants.

Many of my adult patients had braces by a Boise Orthodontist when they were children. They are surprised that their teeth are becoming crooked again.
Most Patients blame the changes in the alignment of their teeth on their wisdom teeth (the failure to take them out timely enough or deciding not to take them out at all). Research has shown us that even patients that take out their wisdom teeth first, then have orthodontics -still have shifting and crowding of their teeth in the future.
Our teeth shift throughout our lives, every day, a tiny bit. The only way to keep them straight is to wear a retainer.

If you saw a Boise Orthodontist as a child, have straight teeth and want to keep them straight then you need to wear a retainer long-term. The good news is most people only need to wear a retainer a few nights a week while they are sleeping. The pressure from the retainer a few nights is enough to keep your teeth straight.

Teeth already crooked? Then you have two options: 1) Start wearing a retainer (your dentist can make you one). It will stop them from becoming more crooked. 2) Have Invisalign orthodontics to align your teeth. Then remember to wear your retainer.

One of the most frequent phone calls we receive is: “How does a Meridian Dental Office determine a Dental Implants Cost?”

A wise man and mentor of mine told me the answer to most questions is, unfortunately – “It depends”. Not the simple answer you were looking for? Don’t lose hope. There are some great rules of thumb to control your dental implants cost.

Rule #1: Don’t wait! Once a tooth is lost the jawbone in that area starts to dissolve away. Less bone equals increased complexity. More complexity means the dental implants cost increases. If you heed the first rule then Rule #2 can help.

Rule #2: Multiple implants = lower cost per implant. It usually takes a little bit longer for the dentist to place one more implant during the same appointment. Most Meridian Dental practitioners will reduce their fees in this case.

Rule #3: Plan ahead. Know your costs beforehand. Let our insurance specialist help you navigate the confusing rules of your dental plan. Have our Meridian dental office check with your insurance coverage to help you control and budget for future Dental Implant Costs.
