Reasons to Choose Invisalign Clear Braces
To date, over six million people are enjoying a straighter, more attractive smile because of Invisalign treatment. There are several benefits to choosing Invisalign to straighten teeth:
No irritation – Traditional metal orthodontics consist of brackets and wires on your teeth that can irritate the soft tissues in your mouth. Invisalign aligners are made from a smooth plastic material with no rough edges to cause irritation or poke your cheeks and gums.
Discreet – Once your crystal-clear Invisalign aligners are in place, they are virtually invisible. You can go about your life without announcing to the world that you’re an adult having orthodontic treatment.
Removable – With traditional braces, metal brackets are bonded to the surfaces of your teeth and stay in place for the duration of treatment. A primary benefit of Invisalign clear aligners is that you can remove them so you can brush and floss easily and continue to enjoy all your favorite foods.
Easy oral hygiene – Cleaning around metal brackets and wires can be difficult, which often means your teeth aren’t getting proper hygiene they need. Since you can remove Invisalign aligners, you can brush and floss effectively and decrease your risk for cavities and gum disease.
Short treatment times – If your daughter just started planning her wedding or your class reunion is coming up; it is possible to have a straighter smile in time for your big event with enough planning!
Low-force pressure –The aligners gently shift your teeth into place with constant low pressure.
What Should I Know about Invisible Braces?
Clear plastic aligners like Invisalign and ClearCorrect use BPA-free transparent, plastic aligners to slowly and gently shift your teeth to the correct position. Dr. David L. Cantwell will be able to make a 3-D image scan of your teeth in order to design a treatment plan for your perfect smile. Using the scans, your aligner trays are custom-fabricated to fit perfectly to your teeth.
Wearing your new personalized plastic aligners is easy and efficient, Dr. Cantwell will explain the process and answer any concerns you may have. It's essential to wear the aligners for 22 hours every day. While you can remove the aligners to eat, drink, and maintain oral hygiene—you shouldn't leave them out for longer than necessary. Every two weeks, you will be able to move to the next set of aligners until treatment is done.
Traditional metal braces require frequent visits to your Boise, ID, dentist in order to tighten brackets and wires. Clear aligners don't need to be as frequent since adjustments are not necessary. Dr. Cantwell will be able to track your progress and ensure that the aligners are fitting correctly.
Why Should I Straighten My Teeth?
Besides improving the appearance of your smile, straight teeth benefit your oral health.
When teeth are crooked or overlap, food particles can get lodged in hard to reach places. Brushing and flossing are harder, and your risk for tooth decay and gum disease increases.
When dental restorations are necessary, like dental crowns, porcelain veneers, bridges, or fillings, straight teeth make the procedure more accessible and more effective.
If your bite is misaligned, your teeth wear down faster during chewing, leading to erosion and fractures that aligned teeth don't face. Additionally, when your bite isn't aligned, your jaw joint may be overworked, which could cause stress and pain. By straightening your teeth, you can align your bite, protect your jaw joint, and prevent fractures and enamel abrasion.
As we age, it can get harder to keep our teeth and gums clean, especially if it's easy to get food stuck between teeth. By straightening your teeth, your preventing future dental problems and extending the life of your teeth. While enhancing your smile is usually a cosmetic issue, in this case, your orthodontic treatment can be the best thing you can do for your oral health. Some of the dental problems invisible braces can fix include:
- Gaps between teeth
- Overcrowded teeth
- Rotated teeth
- Protruding teeth

How the Invisalign Process Works
Dr. Cantwell starts by taking 3-D digital scans of your teeth. This is a comfortable alternative to messy impressions that nobody likes! He uses the scans to create a virtual 3-D model of your teeth. This lets him plan your treatment by predicting the movement of your teeth at each stage. We send your treatment details to an Invisalign lab, where skilled technicians customize your Invisalign aligner trays.
Your aligners will come back to our Boise, ID dental office in a couple of weeks, and we’ll have you return so we can explain the process step by step. Treatment with Invisalign couldn’t be more straightforward; you’ll receive several sets of clear aligners, and we’ll instruct you to wear each set for about two weeks. Then you’ll move to the next set of aligners in the series. You will repeat this process until you’ve used all the aligners and your treatment is finished.
The average Invisalign case requires about 20 to 30 sets of aligners. This translates to about a year of treatment for most adults.
