Crowns Now Take Hours, Not Weeks with CEREC Technology
Do you remember the last time you got a crown? Remember how it took multiple appointments and several weeks with a temporary before you finally left your dentist’s office with your new restoration?
Traditional lab-fabricated crowns are still a good choice for many people. But if you don’t want to spend weeks in the process, a crown fabricated with CEREC technology might be a better choice for you.
What Is CEREC?
CEREC is an acronym for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. This sounds complicated, but it just means that the entire process of getting a new restoration – from preparation to final placement – is completed in a single dental appointment.
There are many benefits to a same-day crown; You don’t need to make multiple trips to the dentist, you don’t need multiple injections or impressions, and you don’t need to deal with a temporary crown.
How Does CEREC Work?
Aside from the convenience CEREC offers, it’s also amazing technology. The first few steps are similar to a lab-fabricated crown in that your tooth is modified and an impression is taken. But the next steps are where CEREC is unique; instead of gathering information and sending it to a dental lab, we input the specifications into software that creates a virtual 3-D model of your new crown. From there, your new crown is milled from a block of porcelain right there in your dentist’s office.
