When should I schedule my child's first dental visit?
We like to see children for their first visit around the age of 3.
At this age, most children have a full set of 20 baby teeth, and we can check to see how things are developing and perform services like exams and cleanings. However, we’re happy to see kids under age 3 for a “happy visit” so that they can become familiar with us.
What if this is their first visit?
Your child’s first visit to our Boise dental office sets the stage for every visit to follow. It is crucial that we use this time to help your child get accustomed to being in a new environment. Suddenly being surrounded by new faces and unfamiliar machines can be pretty overwhelming for a young child!
So Dr. Cantwell’s goal is to make the first visit fun and stress-free. The goal is to let them dictate the pace of their care, and we will never try to treat a child who is not ready. We’ll give them take a ride in the dental chair and look in the little mirror. Dr. Cantwell will count their teeth and show them how to brush if they’re receptive to it.
Your child’s first dental visit is also an excellent opportunity to ask us any questions you have about their oral health. We’ll be happy to show you how to brush your child’s teeth and help them maintain a healthy smile.
