Many of us dream of a perfectly healthy and beautiful smile that attracts others and helps us feel good about our appearance. But there are so many dental procedures available today that it can be hard to picture how one or the other might benefit you.
Over the years, Dr. Cantwell has helped hundreds of his patients in Boise achieve the smile of their dreams. If you would like to get an idea of the changes that are possible for you, please take a moment to browse the before and after images of smile transformations we've created for our actual patients. All work was performed and photographed by Dr. Cantwell.

This patient was born with no lateral incisors (the second teeth from the middle), which made his larger teeth fall forward, giving a less balanced look to his smile. After a round of orthodontics to close gaps, we placed veneers over the canine teeth, giving them the look of incisor teeth and the bicuspids the look of canines. Once we finished with the veneers, we whitened his teeth for an overall brighter look. You can see in the after photos that there is a more even, "normal" appearance to his smile now!

This patient was experiencing several problems and needed a few procedures to achieve the smile she wanted. Years of drinking teeth-staining liquids like coffee, tea, and wine had left her teeth discolored, while crowding had left her teeth chipped and worn. We started with Invisalign to give more space to over overcrowded smile. Then, we added a few no-metal crowns and veneers to give a more even, youthful appearance to her front teeth. Finally, we whitened the rest of her smile to match. The final result, as you can see, is a smile that really pops!

This patient was a regular night-time teeth grinder, which left her with short, square teeth. By the time we started her treatment, she had already lost 20% of the length of her teeth. We started by adding some eMax crowns to her teeth to elongate the short teeth. Then we used our laser to recontour her gum line so that there wasn't as much variation. Now, this patient uses a night guard to prevent future wear and tear of her new smile!

This patient fell and chipped her front tooth. Because the fracture was so small and the overall health of the rest of the tooth, we were able to fix it with simple dental bonding and without the use of shots! First, we matched the color of her tooth to the composite resin material. Then we applied it to the chipped area, shaped it to match, polished it, and 1 hour later, she was back to work! She was a very happy patient and we are happy with the results.

This patient had an old discolored filling that we removed, showing stains and discoloration on his natural tooth. We used composite resin bonding, in several layers with multiple colors, to block out the stains and create a more attractive appearance. The result was fast and affordable. Down the road, this patient could elect to have his other front tooth corrected to match!

This patient had stained teeth from taking tetracycline as a child. He was also unhappy with the worn appearance and shape of his teeth, so we couldn't just whiten them. We started by applying crowns to cover his natural teeth, hiding the deep stains and restoring the beautiful shape of the upper and lower teeth. Over the next year, the patient will focus on whitening the back teeth, giving a complete smile makeover.

Have you ever worried that the hammer would come back at you? This patient shows what can happen with an unfortunately aimed accident. Luckily, dental bonding is a cost effective solution that results in a once again beautiful, natural looking tooth.

This patient had crowded, misaligned teeth that were hard to floss and were causing wear. We were able to complete a short round of Invisalign, followed by polishing the front teeth to give beautiful results. Now this patient can easily brush and floss her teeth, which will help her maintain her smile for years to come!

Did you know that a common genetic trait in people of Northern European descent is lateral incisors that are too small? These "peg laterals" can be corrected with composite resin in a single dental appointment. You can see the difference this durable, esthetic transformation made for this patient!

When only a portion of your teeth are actually showing, it can give the appearance of a "gummy smile" that many people find unappealing. To correct this, we started with a round of Invisalign to align her teeth. Next, we used a laser to resculpt the gum tissue, exposing the hidden parts of her front teeth. The after photo shows her smile after just one week of healing!

This patient chipped both of her front teeth in a boating accident. Dr. Cantwell used composite resin to layer on multiple layers of colors to create a natural, seamless repair that should last for years. Such a simple, affordable fix to give this patient her smile back!

This patient hated the stains on her front teeth. In addition to the stains, she also had fractures behind her teeth and a crack down the front of one of her front teeth. We decided it was time for restorations to give her a brighter, more attractive smile. By placing same-day crowns with our CEREC machine, we were able to help her achieve a beautiful smile!

A fear of the dentist created neglect that built-up over many years causing pain and embarrassment for this patient. We knew that we had to do some extensive work to help him correct his smile, so we used sedation dentistry to make him more comfortable and confident during his treatment. Then, we placed CEREC same-day crowns on to his teeth to give the final result. What a change!

An accident left this patient with a tooth that had not only become discolored, but also started dissolving at the root. Since the root was beyond repair, we extracted the tooth and placed a single tooth implant. We capped the implant with a crown and veneer to give him back the smile that he once had.

This patient was unhappy with their large, old silver fillings. We also found decay on the tooth once we removed the filling, so we had to start by removing all of the decay before we could move on. Then we were able to create a strong, natural looking insert to the tooth in a single visit. The result is a beautiful, long-lasting onlay restoration that will last for years.

This patient was unhappy with the ground-down edges of their their teeth due to years of grinding. We started the treatment by cleaning the teeth and then applying a natural looking composite resin along the edges, creating a repair that adds to the tooth structure without having to cut the tooth down any further. You can see what a difference it made!

Just like many of our patients, this gentleman was unhappy with his large, noticeable silver fillings. By replacing it with a natural looking white filling, he is able to laugh and speak without the distraction of a gray tooth!

Aggressive wear made this patient hate the appearance of her teeth. We worked together to find a treatment plan that would give her a natural-looking, beautiful smile. After she completed a course of Invisalign, we whitened her teeth and combined that with 6 veneers and 12 crowns. The after photo speaks for itself!
